Nominator's project description

Professor Kawai is one of the world leading scientists in the field of single molecule chemistry. Her unique work on so-called “action spectroscopy” has boosted a new research field leading to fundamental understanding of microscopic processes of chemical reactions and molecular processes at surfaces. Furthermore, Professor Kawai investigates the interaction between spins localized at adsorbed molecules and metal electrons whereby magnetic resonances are resolved with sub-atomic spatial resolution. During her stay in Germany, she intends to study plasmonic induced chemistry and vibrational dynamics of single molecules probed by Raman scattering.
